Many of you say "I installed Gimp but I do not understand anything! It gives me the English bastard! I'm French ...:(". Indeed sometimes the menus and messages are Gimp in English. This is not a bad setup file Gimp or a problem installing language file. This is just to the Windows ... I just Chris who sent me a small email for an explanation on this and unlike many people to have Gimp in English for translation work. She was kind enough to give us the screenshots for this tutorial "Change Language gimp ", thank you to her (because my screenshots windows, bah uh ... I do not have windows).

This tutorial is for XP, Vista and Seven.

1.) Launch Control Panel from the Start menu:

fenêtre des propriétés système windows pour avoir Gimp en Français
You click at the bottom of this window on the button "Environment Variables". FYI, an environment variable has nothing but then nothing to do with ecology, it's just something that can vary (what a variable) and is valid for the entire system or the user account.

5.)
variable d'environnement windows pour modifier langue de Gimp Once you click the LANG variable and you change. Two options are available to you: you want
French Gimp, you put en
you want Gimp in English, you put in

You turn and run Gimp and ...

je veux Gimp en Français Anglais ... You end up with a cute cat that pionce in planters, chives (?) As a pillow, sniffing the geraniums ... No it's not that it should be noted. The Gimp Chris is in English as she wanted!

Note that if you regularly change your language Gimp you can create two small batch programs that will take charge to change the language automatically.
In notepad, copy this code (you may need to change the path that points to the executable Gimp):

Rem Run Gimp in French
@ echo off
set lang = en
start "" "C: \\ Program Files \\ GIMP-2.0 \\ bin \\ gimp-2.6.exe"

And you save on your desktop as Gimp_Fran.bat.

For English you create another file in notepad and copy it:

Rem Run Gimp in English
@ echo off
set lang = en
start "" "C: \\ Program Files \\ GIMP-2.0 \\ bin \\ gimp-2.6.exe "

And you save on your desktop as Gimp_Ang.bat.

You will just choose to run or Gimp_Fran Gimp_Ang suit your needs!
